On Wednesday 23rd September I gave a presentation on Viability at the LD Events Residential Development and Site Finding Conference. My session aimed to equip the 250 attendees with a simple guide to optimising the viability process. 

I covered the full development lifecycle, from site finding and bidding, through the pre-application stage, the planning submission itself, negotiations, Planning Committee, and the drafting of the S106 Agreement. Discussion points included the key drivers for Applicants and Local Authorities, the continued push for transparency, the age-old debate surrounding benchmark land values, viability review mechanisms, and alternative uses for viability (for example justifying higher density).
